Last weekend I put down a load of weed supressing material around my soft fruit bushes. I want to put some wood chip or bark on top of this if possible and am currently trying to source some as cheaply as possible. Anybody know where's best to get some?

Contact your local council - sometimes the parks department gives it away for free (though it's usually a huge amount). -

We have a tip near us and we can get ours for free just need a shovel and bags its not the normal council tip though.Gardening ..... begins with daybreak
and ends with backache

They have a pile on site where local's dump it for free and it gets well used, i nearly cleared our pile at the weekend!!Comment

If you have no luck with the council try local tree surgeons. They often have to pay to get rid of chippings so are only too happy to offload the stuff for free.Comment

Try some of the conservation charities too. Usually they have a use for it on one or the other of their projects, but occasionally they have far too much or nowhere that currently needs it.Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
