I share in your bramble woes, I'm edged on 2 sides by 6ft high brambles!

Ahhh, a blank canvass (I always try to look positive ). If you can get them 6ft high on the other two sides it will be secure

Actually I was going to post a new thread about this but I think it fits in here.

I have changed to above picture to show the boundary of my plot. I am going to build a shed in the far left corner.

Is the only way to tame the brambles to cut them back continually?

Would it be best to cut back a path between my plot and the brambles and put some black plastic down to reduce the onslaught? Or will that just be futile?

Hello Wizer, and all the grapes with bramble problems. I've never found the brambles too hard to get rid of and I've had some big patches. I found if they were just cut off at ground level and the new growth prayed with roundup they gave in. Even just cutting them at ground level several times seemed to be effective.
Don't let them fruit. The birds then spread them all over the place.
            Good luck.

cheers Alice, problem is, I cant complotely remove them. The brambles are about 20ft deep and surround the allotment site. I think originally they let them grow as a security measure. I am allowed to keep them back but not remove them totaly.

We do that. We stopped putting up razor wire and just let teh brambles grow round the edge of the site. works wonders.

How about you put some posts in & get some Pallets & make a fence then you can train them through the fence if you want or just cut them back.

                  Something like this

we have security brambles, just cut them back every year and have a fire.
and we eat lots of pies and wine.
it takes maybee half a day for two of us to clear it, wouldnt want to remove them, they work very well at keeping the bad folks out.
