can i compost my girlfriends rabbits waste

hi guys

i fairly new to all this as i only took over an allotment in November.

I have planned what i want and where i want it.

The reason why i joined this forum was to find out whether i can use or compost my rabbits old bedding, which consists of newspaper, hay, sometimes shredded paper and of course there waste!

I know the rabbits dropping are good, but want to know if there urine will harm anything?

any advise will be much appreciated.

I used to put my rabbit waste in he compost bin and I always got a good end product. I've grown a heap of things in my tiny garden throughout last year and it doesn't appear to have done anything of mine any harm. (Just a warning though. If you dont mix your compost heap regularly it can turn into mouldy bricks if it lies there too long.)

its fine, i put all of our Gerbils waste on the heap, any herbivores waste is good. as previously said - just make dure you mix it in!

Well my partner wees on our compost heap to get it going so i think a rabbit's urine wouldn't be harmful.

if you mix it up with greens (veg waste or grass clippings) it should be a good mixture to rot down well.
Keep the compost on the damp side too

Absolutely. Our elderly rabbit sadly died just before Christmas. We were told on Monday about a young bunny who needed a new home and one of the main reasons we said we'd take him in is because their droppings are such good compost activators......... that and the fact that we seriously missed Dylan.

I compost our bunny poo. The biggest problem we have this time of year is trying to find sufficient "green" waste (i.e. leaf, veg peelings etc) to counteract all the "brown" waste (i.e. all the bedding we have to use of we would have two shivering bunnies!)!!! A 50/50 mix is good

Gandalf arrives at 5pm tonight, in a few minutes I'm off to relocate the rabbit hutch (I think a quiet part of the garden away from the dog is preferable for a day or two, until he settles). Sadly we're already shortening his name to Gandy, which obviously sounds like Ghandi.......we'll have to stop that!

Yup- we used to have 4 bunnies- and always put the soiled shavings and currants on the compost!

Used to put all the (sadly deceased) rat litter,sawdust,wood chippings,newspaper, into the composter,mixed well with green material,spud peelings etc. made lovely compost as long as it left for long enough

i read it has that & thought of a different type of rabbit & thought why would you want to compost one of those
