Liquid seaweed

I have brewed 2 bin fulls of seaweed in water over the winter period and have now removed seaweed from bins and spread on the allotment, but what I want to know is should the liquid fertiliser that's left smell as bad as it does and is there a time limit to when I should use it.

I agree with VC, when plant material is left in water without any air movement it becomes anaerobic, which basicly means its making methane gas, but that aside I have used a 2 year old seaweed brew with no ill effects to my plants

If you make another batch I've made it lots of times with dried bladderwrack. Placed in a bucket of water and stirred daily, after about a week the liquid turns viscous and glossy and is ready to use. Each week I'd drain off the liquid to dilute and and refill the bucket with more water. The seaweed takes about four re-fillings before it runs out of nutrients. Making it like this it smells like fresh seaweed on the shore.

I think it lasts indefinitely greenfingers. Certainly longer than you can stick the smell.
When I get seaweed I just put it directly on the beds or in compost. I made a liquid brew once and it made me gag.

Should have added, if the smell is too much for you, I would recommend..... holding your breath

The smell Is definitely putting me off brewing it again.
I did add aload to my beds so might just stick with that in the future, plus I've just found a farmer who can supply me with endless supply of cow manure so I have a couple of options.

Make sure the manure is well rotted, I would prefer at least a year old.

Ahhhh cow manure... now there�s a smell I could inhale down to my toes. Wholesome goodness.
