  • green manure - saving seed

The yellow-flowered stuff in either picture on the page linked to
    https://thecaley.org.uk/it-appears-t...eam-this-week/

It's got pointy seed pods that stick out at about 90 degrees to the stalk

2 reasons to do it - one to save the seed and 2 to keep more seed from re-sowing itself for next year.

Has anyone done this and/or got any tips on seed-saving for this sort of plant?

Its the agricultural mustard, according to the blurb. Don't grow it myself but the oriental mustards seed everywhere.

      thanks Veggers!

I did a bit of googling and it just seems to say "take the seed pods off the plant" (with no particular technique suggested). I may be they don't set in the first year, in which case I'll just chop it all down nearer crop-planting time.

They'll set in the first year so keep a close eye on them, unless you want it to regrow everywhere.

I suspect that you let it seed, cut it down green, then thrash after allowing it to dry for a few days.

Best watch that the pods don't burst open.

Well, I collected, stored (in a sainsbury's carrier bag in the garage), scattered, and it seems to be growing!
