  • Hello from West Yorkshire

    Hello everyone.

I am pretty new to this growing veg lark. I grew a few bits last year in tubs- toms, peppers, chillies, peas and a few potatoes, some where successful others not so.
I am hoping to do a bit more this year and have got myself a mini greenhouse and a very small veg plot (the kids weren't too happy when I dug up part of 'their' lawn). I'm also on the waiting list for an allotment but that could be years away yet, hopefully by the time I get one I will know what I am doing.

So far this year I am growing cucumbers - mistake number one didn't know how big they grew, much too big for my mini greenhouse, starwberries, onions, garlic, carrots, tomatoes, chillies, peppers, lettuce, spring onions.
    Wish me luck.

          Hi Yellow Strawberry
I am in Bradford. When I applied for the allotments - there are 2 sites near me - I was 75th on one and 51st on the other. I think it could be a long wait. I know there are some with no waiting lists but unfortunately not near me.

welcome to the vine. Checked your cucumber seed packet, some can be grown outside in a sunny spot

                          Thanks for the welcome everyone.
I'm sure I'll have plenty more questions to ask in the future but for now just a quick one. My cucumber plants have grown to be huge. (I'm really excited I've never grown them before). I have nipped the top of them to stop them growing any bigger but they are still way too big to go in my mini greenhouse. The packet said suitable for a cool greenhouse so I daren't put them outside. At the moment they are in the childrens playroom in front on a very sunny window, so will I be okay to leave them there all summer - they already have loads of small cucumbers on them - or should I try to find somewhere else for them?
                          Thanks
