    Loving the messages and advice

Thanks so much, might look into the ornamental book. Sounds right up my street.

Plus a friend popped round this afternoon all fed up because she's thinking of giving up her allotment, she's just had a second baby and hasnt got the time to devote to it, so instead of giving it up I suggested we share from now on! Talk about in at the deep end!

Rusty Lady- absolutely nothing wrong with the sledgers at all - just not a sight I see every Tuesday afternoon but lovin' it

Happy birthday in 3 months RL & welcome to the vine Bex. Don't worry, like HM said, some things will be a little later & some a little earlier. I think that's what she said but to be fair I wasn't listening.

Hi bluebex, welcome from another Yorkshire Lass, great news about your friend sharing the Lotty with you, you'll be able to grow lots more stuff, I too grow my herbs in pots (see picky), I don't know if you know the Barnsley area? But if you want some cheep terracotta pots for your herbs, I know a great place.

              Hi BlueBex,

I'm a bit late - sorry - but congrats on the lottie news! It sort of steps a little on what I was GOING to say, which is that until we moved and also acquired a huge lottie, I gardened almost entirely out of pots. I didn't have too many failures, and gave most things a go. the harvests were small (in size and number) but pot-growing can be easier as you can create 'ideal' environments quite easily (doesn't apply to all).

We have a 23 month old and an almost-6 month old, and finding the time is very hard, but I very much want them both to grow up learning about soil and seeds and growing stuff. We're planning on turning the bottom of the lottie into a play area for them with a little wooden playhouse and sand pit etc. so they can enjoy spending time at the lottie whilst we work, and eventually move on to getting more involved.

Please let us know how you progress and how your planting plan goes!

Do you know what - this forum inspired me to join a photography one too and they're no where near as friendly! Ha ha. Ah well...

Yes, I'm delighted about the allotment so have been devouring this website for info. Going to have our first visit as a family this weekend and see if we can start things off. Think there'll be some clearing to do first but thats ok while the ground thaws

A friend of mine works in a factory where they make them, the one you see is a sample, they send them out to different company's so they can see what there product is like.....so he rescued me one for my cress.

Hi, these allotments are at the end of my road! I'm not in the posh bit though, we are just before the woods start. I too share a lotty with a friend, well two quarter plots really. One on lidgett lane and one on the hovingham site.We are both novices and have found this site invaluable, friendly and fun Like you I am trying to encourage my boys into veg growing, my 7 year old loves it but my 4 yaer old doesn't! But then again I have to pin him down to get him to eat it as well, wheras the 7 year old announced he was a vegetarian when he was 2 and a half and hasn't touched meat/fish since!!

My alotment buddy grows herbs in hanging baskets and the basil thrives, his yard is very sunny though and he has one of hose watering devices on a timer?!

Anyway good to meet you!! And a neighbour too!
                                Kind regards
