Hi Ollie and welcome on here.
Hope you enjoy it as much as i do.

Welcome fella. I've only been a member a couple of weeks and I agree, they are both helpful and friendly.

I love Cornwall - had many great holidays there over the years.

Hello Ollie in Camborne and Grannymem in Truro [and everyone else!] I am also in 'sunny [and snowy] Cornwall' and had to laugh at the 'anyone go camping' thread where someone mentions their holiday here last year when it rained for 6 days! Oh how familiar. Glad to be 'meeting' some local growers. As with Shoreham Steve, the clue to my location is in the name, but here in sunny PZ we don't get much garden space and there is a 2-5 year wait for allotments, so last year I took a plot over in Burras (between Redruth and Helston) where I have just taken on a second plot because I discovered that one is just not enough! Really grabs yer, this gardening lark ....

            Hi PenzanceLisa,

Another Cornish grape - how exciting!!

We have a town garden - long and narrow - so sympathise with your lack of space. I haven't got an allotment either so have to try to do my best with a small veg plot that has a lot of shade, a small greenhouse (alkso with a fair amount of shade) and odd spots in the garden where I stick herbs, usually rather poorly salad leaves and the odd runnner bean which looks noce even if it dowsn't produce many beans.
You may have guessed that we have a fair amount of shade - the house is a tall Edwardian semi with the front facing the South (and beside the A390 so plenty of traffic) and the rear (with the garden) facing North East and bordered by lots of neighbouring trees (but we have a wonderful view of the cathedral)
It's not ideal for gardening but I do love pottering and I've found the Vine invaluable. I'm going to have a go at making the homemade compost bags that have been suggested and I keep thinking about making some raised beds but not quite sure how - I forgot to say the garden is on quite a steep slope so making new beds usually requires a lot of spade work to create a vaguely level surface.

            Happy gardening

G'Day Ollie! A very warm welcome from a brutally hot Down Under! We hit 38 degrees yesterday (101 F on the old scale) and expecting the same again today. It is so enervating. Please ship us a large consignment of your snow and cold air. We can do with it here!

Enjoy your gardening and don't hesitate to ask questions. We all love to help.
Happiness is being with the love of your life. If you can't have that, then an unlimited supply of well-rotted manure is a pretty close second!
