Welcome back! And life can be a struggle, I hear ya. My life hasn't been a bed of roses either, but I keep thinking that positivity is so much nicer than any of the other options.
If you want to garden on next to nothing, like I am, the marketplace on Facebook is really useful. There's a search specifically for free stuff! Just tonight, I've picked up some slabs, bricks and two lovely planters!
Prior to that, I've got a horse owner very happy if I go and help myself to all of her horse manure, a steady supply of pallets for my compost bins, sheds and so on! And my next project is to somehow build a polytunnel out of the metal frame from trampolines!

I'm one of the newer additions, here less than a year. Nice to meet you gardening_gal.

Hang in there. I use a lot of recycled containers to grow stuff in, and growing stuff that stores well helps with the grocery bills over the year (still got little pumpkins from autumn last year). Having no TV, not buying any drinks, no convenience foods (if you can manage cooking from scratch), never eating out/no takeaways if you can help it, and buying from companies specialising in stuff "past best before date" help immensely.

@Sarriss, thanks for the FaceBook suggestion. I really need breeze blocks and wood so I'll definitely be checking there.

I'm actually very fortunate (although I didn't think so a couple of years back, lol) to have kept a lot of my gardening stuff. I did try to sell it all on, even for a few quid, to help out the finances but people just wanted it all for free. I gave away quite a number of things including an almost new petrol mower and at that point my neighbour at the time kinda took over and picked everything up and stored it in her garage telling me to hold onto things 'just in case' and not to just let folks who didn't care, have a free for all.

So, fast forward a couple of years and I still have a lot of 'things', my original tunnel, which has seen better days but I intend fixing, pots and beds etc.

What I don't have is soil and seeds. So I'm stuck anyways.

My garden here is all paved or stoned, which is fine because I would struggle with digging and weeding a bit now I think so I will be growing again in raised beds just as soon as I get compost/soil. Sadly the local council here doesn't do the free compost that some other councils do. So I can see me doing a midnight run to the farmer's field. Just kidding!

Nice to meet you too Squingy. Although in my head I'm reading 'Squidgy' so please don't be offended if I call you that from time to time. Just think of me as delightfully eccentric.

For health reasons I am now trying to eat in a certain way hence my starting to grow veg etc again. And I thumb my nose at 'best before dates', if it looks ok and smells ok.....then it's ok!
