Bamboo canes

I'm looking for some reasonably priced bamboo canes for this season; does anyone have any tips on where to look?

The ones I inherited a beyond use now and I need to grow peas in a wigwam. I have some poles already coppiced for my beans.

Local lottie society shop. Ours sell 8 foot canes for 40p each. I buy few new ones every year to replace damaged ones.

I buy mine on eBay, in large bundles (can't remember exactly but at least 100 per bundle, maybe 250). They last me several years (I mean new ones waiting to be used, let alone used ones being reused) and are oodles cheaper than just buying a handful as needed.

Last order I can find was 2010, so price has probably gone up since then, but they were 11p each (5' long) bought in qty of 250

Make sure you don't get any that are very thin - cheaper, but not going to support much! They should be listed with a size which is the "fat" end

Hi Kristen, I had a quick look at evilbay, but I wasn't sure of size/quality, so it's good to hear you recommend them.
I was hoping there'd be a gardening store or website I'd missed that was worth a look.

I'm not entirely sure what size I need for peas either!

Peas don't grow up canes but I use them to support plastic mesh which they will cling to - most of mine are tall so 8' canes for that but much shorter for the early dwarf ones I grow in the tunnel, probably only 3 or 4' in that case.

Mine do Well the tall and climbing varieties anyway. I like a little of lots of things so tend to plant in groups/blocks. Also for some odd reason hubby likes seeing the 'bean trees' go up in the veg patch (wigwams/teepees to you and me)

Bean trees, I love it! From now on I shall call my wigwams (exactly what I need them for) pea-trees... or should that be tree-peas...?! I'll get my coat...

Well would you believe it. Wilko is still selling 6ft and 8ft canes at�2 & �2.50 but instead of 10 canes you only get5. 4ft canes are still �1 for 10

P.s. my order from last week just came today - 7 packs of 10 so my beans are sorted.

Given up on canes, paid the extra to get coppiced Hazel, last for years, more expensive though at a �1 each
