Make up advice please ladies

Hi everyone! I've got a bit of a problem! Not that I usually wear make up - but went for an interview for a job recently - put the usual amount of make up on - mascara/eye shadow.........had the interview (no, dont know results yet) but my eye was itching on the way home.....rubbed my eye a bit. Woke up next day with a black eye!!!
Hopefully got more job interviews in the pipeline, but cant have constant black eyes! Does anyone know where I can get sensitive mascara/eye shadow from?

I think Avon do a sensitive range. Their stuff is all tested on volunteers, not animals.

Most companies do "sensitive skin" or "hypoallergenic" ranges. However, I think the main problem is that you don't often wear makeup (like me). On the rare occasion that you do it feels foreign to your body and the itching starts. More so round the eyes. I never had any problems when I wore makeup every day (working in a pub for fifteen years - it was part of the uniform), but now that I rarely wear it, I find I have a problem every time. And what do you do as soon as your eye starts itching - you give it a good rub (completely forgetting that you have eyeshadow and mascara on) which makes matters worse

How about dying your eyelashes DDL? I did it last summer and it was great! No black eyes or messy mascara to bother about. It looked good for about four weeks. You can get "home" kits although I seem to remember it was reasonably priced getting it done at a salon.

of if youve got a college near you you can usually get all sorts of treatments very cheaply done by the students but properly supervised, i get me eyebrows dyed for a couple of quid

How old is the mascara? If it's over 6 months old I would recommend buying a new one. Also if you're tempted to get your lashes tinted I would go to a beaticians and make sure they do an allergy test on you first. (It's just a dab of dye behind your ear).

Your makeup could have been out of date DDL. Maybe you should buy some new stuff. I did a similar thing a couple of years ago - old eye make up I think. My eye started watering like an allergic reaction and did it for TWO YEARS ! And very miserable it was. I haven't worn makeup since and don't think I look any worse without it. It was never really my thing anyway. Hope your eye gets better soon.

Have you tried dying your lashes????Much easier ..and lasts for ages!
I used to get mine from Boots..and it worked for weeks. I itch and scratch and puff up at most things on my face- even hair products. Not sure what make but it was one where you mixed 2 products together and applied for 10 mins or so......lasts for weeks...much longer than an allergic reaction!!!

I'm not into makeup either, but there are occasions when it's "necessary" . I'm sensitive to some perfumes and dyes. I usually use Boots No 17 and seem to find most of it OK except their green eyeliner. I assume it's the dye as the other colours are allright. I like green as I have green eyes (a bit faded nowadays) so I use Rimmel eyeliner. This is odd because in general I have a bad reaction to their makeup, and I don't like the smell.

I dye mine as well, with the stuff in the pink box from Boots! Then for eyeliner and shadow, when I wear it, I usually go for Boots No 17 tho I dont think it's particularly sensitive?!

Thanks everyone! It was new make up because I had a similar problem last time I wore some make up, so went out and bought new. Good idea re: dying my lashes - I go to a very nice salon every couple of months for a massage - will check and see if they do dying - and I'm due to go the weekend after next.

A different approach - why not get some make up removal wipes and keep them in the car so that as soon as you're out of the interview you can take it off?

Good luck with your interviews. I use clinique foundation as I have sensitiv skin, Rimmel do a sensitive range, I always wore makeup but very rarely now but I find my eyes stream when wearing makeup now.
