    By the way, if you're using a water butt - even one which you have just filled up from the mains, it isn't connected to the water mains and so is a private water supply not under the water companies authority. So you can run a hose from that to the garden or run a pump for more pressure.

    If you had the tap on and were filling it at the time it's considered to be drawing from the mains supply so it does fall under their authority. Same thing with a watering can with a hose it it.

      ^So within the letter of the law even if it seems bizarre.

      Yes, Kirk, she is on metered water. If she's lucky though, as a Blue Badge holder, it won't apply to her. And if everyone in her area is lucky, as VC suggests, the reservoirs in her area will hold out.

      Looks like this thread started an interesting debate, though.
