I took my son to the airport very early on Wednesday morning with a quick detour down some very rural lanes to pick up his friend. I saw rabbits, foxes, owls and various other scurrying creatures that I haven't seen for a long time since I've moved to a rural town. A big village really, but not the farm I'm used to.

A quick look around the garden this morning shows how many plants I couldn't rescue have so far survived the winter. Mostly strawberries and geraniums, but surprisingly citrus trees and grapes (we are survivors).

Going into the back garden and noticing the scent of the Sarcococca, then going out of the front door and smelling the wonderful scent of the winter honeysuckle by the door.
          Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
          Endless wonder.

So many little (to some insignificant) things make me happy in the garden. It's difficult to list.

Finding half a veg patch with a little bit of effort and starting to see and feel things establishing. Moved a lot of the fruit bushes this winter.

Doing something this time of year and it still looks the same the next time you look so for a little while it feels like you are getting somewhere.

Seeing the first Crocus Tommasianus in the grass I call a "lawn". The first of many, I hope.

Dahlias, dahlias, dahlias, although I do feel a little guilty having spent a small fortune. I always knew when I first gave in to buying tubers I would have issues.

A Charm of Goldfinches on the verbena bonariensis seed heads, outside the kitchen window.
Don't know how many make a Charm but there are at least 12.

So pleased I didn't cut it down in the name of "tidyness".
