Yes. I've always assumed that was the reason VC grows her lovely camellia japonicas. You can make tea with those, too.

Sadly the youngsters are not generally inspired to make do and mend or DIY in general, instead they can get new on credit and live a disposable lifestyle. One of the side effects is that all those stores that once were the heart of live in small towns are no longer needed and the interwebs has done for them in the main.

I think that has definitely been the case until recently. The climate change emergency is changing the attitude of people of all ages. Many communities are setting up "Repair Shops" to reverse the trend.
