Roadside hedgerows.......
I am not a farmer, nor a council worker so please can anyone help me understand the crazy times of year they seem to choose to trim back the hedges.
On my way home I found they had slashed back lengths of the hedgerow beside the roads.
what makes it hard to understand is the loss of all those berries that the birds need in order to survive the winter! (unhappy Mrs HF)
Could they not do this job the winter after berries, before nesting???????
Am I missing something here?

The one place locally that I can pick wild damsons is only reachable because they have trimmed back the lower hedgerows too. Hedges here are high enough and wide enough for the birds to do okay from the berries that people and machinery can't touch.
