Upcycling help!

Well I spotted an old wooden drawer(?) from a plan chest at a market on the weekend. It has perfect little compartments for my "bits and bobs" and will slide under my craft shelf for storage.



I would like to line the drawers with some coloured papers and maybe varnish it to keep it clean - I'll be storing jewellery findings and copper discs etc in it or maybe use it as a display when I do the school xmas fete.

Any advice on what to glue the paper on with? Im assuming one coat of clear varnish will do the job?

Scarlet they're called typesetter's, letterpress or printers, drawer/tray I've got one on my landing wall filled with bits and bobs. All I did with mine was to polish it but there's lots of ideas on google.

Mine has a large split down the centre that's why I thought linng it might be a good idea. I love it. oH said I was ripped off for a tenner

Mines tiny compared to yours I'm feeling a bit envious. think i paid �5 for mine about 15 years ago.

That's lovely Bren! I've changed my mind now perhaps I should just give it a clean, sand and a varnish.

Olive oil rubbed into the wood (once it has had a bit of a clean) works wonders. It does not leave the wood sticky and brings up the natural beauty a treat. Dip a small cloth into a bown of the stuff and give it a go on the back to see whether you like the magic it can work.

If you do go for lining it Scarlet, given it's for craft items you should do it in keeping, go to your hobby place get some Decoupage Glue & Varnish & a paper of your choice paste the tray, stick the paper on & paste the paper, job's a good 'un

If you wanted,you could use some wood filler in the gaps & sand it down then paint & varnish.

Love that Scarlet ( and Bren ). I would give it the TLC it needs. Sanding, painting/varnishing.it will look stunning when it's done. If it is going to be dual purpose storage and display. I would cut out bits of black felt ( or similar) to line it with for display purposes, but have them removable for when it's just in storage use.
