As a fellow sufferer I'm not surprised at how you feel about the NHS. When gout attacks my toes, ankles and knees I can't walk to the loo let alone an NHS Walk In Centre.Originally posted by jonny the plant pot View PostBeen to the local walk in centre and been given some tablets
now we're did I put that Chinese chive
There are blood tests that can confirm the diagnosis and tablets the GP can give you to stop future attacks. The tablets reduced my attack rate and luckily for me I got a new GP last year who upped my dose higher than the first GP and I've had almost no problems since.
Medics nowadays seem to want to blame gout on "dehydration due to drinking alcohol" which doesn't correlate with me. Eating rare beef (or rare venison) is guaranteed to set my condition off so I avoid roasts and burgers (and dodgy BBQ sausages).
Watch out for side effects with gout medication!!!!!!!!
Good Luck. The proof of the growing is in the eating.
Leave Rotten Fruit.
Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potasium - potash.

Jonny, hope you get something permanent sorted soon ..... There are meds for gout and they can have side effects, but your GP should be s**t hot with blood tests to make sure not affecting kidneys etc
It is very debilitating - I was originally diagnosed with gout by my GP .. (horrified when told to keep off the red wine ....!!) . long story short, not gout but arthritis ....
Pain is something you sort of get used to being in your life - know your limitations : taken me a few years to get me 'ead round it really ....
Good luck anyway, and CARRY ON GROWING!

a prescription ... And with no limit on dosage.

Hi Jonny. My brother in law has gout in his toes and right knee and I asked him for advice. He says it should be classed as a priority appointment as you need blood tests and to get the results back. He had this problem as well getting into his docs so he ended up going to the out of hours doc. She was really mad that my BiL was told he would have to wait to see a doc. Could you see a practise nurse?
Ring up again and tell the receptionist you need to see a doc. Remember some of the receptionists think they are the practice managers and begrudge giving out appointments. Tell them you need to be seen this week.sigpic

Good luck with this - a gout bout was the first time I saw my Dad cry
And from personal experience I know that while the constant pain really grinds you down, the days when it goes back in its box are extra special.Le Sarramea https://jgsgardening.blogspot.com/
