Valentines Day.

Happy Valentines day to all.
I know there are loads of peeps on here who dont celebrate it but, this day 54 years ago we got engaged, and yes, we got married a year and ten months later. We have always marked the occasion for that reason.
Had champagne and strawberries after breakfast sitting on the balcony, and although its very stormy the temp is still 18 deg.

I understand why you celebrate something personal like getting engaged, that's lovely, but I'll never understand why people buy into being told to spend loads of money to prove they love somebody on a specific day of the year when the real way to show you love somebody is to do things because you want to at any time of the year. As a general thing today is the most unromantic day of the year, remembering something personal to you is much nicer and in the case of the OP trump anything that I've seen on the tacky advertisements in recent years. No idea what date we got engaged, I know it was a Saturday morning (probably in about May) during 1997 but not really an anniversary person.

That's a lovely story Bramble congratulations. OH proposed on bended knee in Barcelona, though same as Alison, I can't remember the date either and I have often forgotten our wedding anniversary but I do like to be treated. It doesn't have to be tons of money spent and I wouldn't go out for dinner around valentines but the flowers picked from the garden and left on the kitchen table brightened up my day today.

My ex husband didn't do Valentines Day(nor birthdays) he did, however, give me surprise presents and flowers from time to time. They were all the more genuine for being a surprise.

My late OH was a romantic. The last VD before he died he took me out to our favourite restaurant/pub together with two of our best friends. The men had obviously cooked it up between them. :-)

Newcastle United had their St Valentines massacre yesterday when they were trashed 5-1 by Chelsea!

I celebrate valentines day!
Mind you, I'll take any excuse for celebration.

We always spend it at home but take it in turns to go all out cooking each other a delicious meal. The 'cooked for' person cooks a fancy dinner for the kids...serves them it like a waiter/waitress pouring 'schloer' instead of wine. Then tucks the kids into one room with a disney video and goes for a long soak in a bubble bath.
The 'cookee' then makes a fantstic meal complete with candles and room decorations for when they come back downstairs.

Its our way of remembering to take a day to focus on each other without interruptions. The planning starts weeks ahead...the day is booked off work....fancy ingredients sourced and bought. I love it!

Lamb kleftiko for us tonight....been cooking on low for the last five hours and the whole house smells divine.

That's lovely Muddled. When you have a family the kids are often put first so it's good to make time for each other. So glad mine are 17now but they still wear me out! ....driving lesson coming up I know I'll need a wine later

We met at Halloween so tend to celebrate that day instead! We've mostly given up sugar for the past year so celebrated Valentine's day with a large chocolate cake and two different types of ice cream! Yum!

I got the OH a card, a small bar of chocolate and a box of 4 chocolate eclairs. He got me a card but once he get paid he is going to buy me the River Cottage Veg Every day book.
Don't really do much for Valentines Day. Think its a bit like Christmas that its lost its meaning and gone very commercialised.

Sounds like a lovely evening but I'd still make sure I did it on an evening of our choice (which would be pretty much any day that wasn't today ), think it stems from hating being told what to do . Enjoy.
