Board Games

We always get the board games out after Christmas dinner,there's 'mr & mrs' we get in teams of male against female,opposite sides of the table,can get sexist not nasty,just funny amongst family you know. The men's questions are always easier if they win & vice versa. We also have 'logo' & 'best of british'. It's a laugh with family,you can come out with ridiculous answers & it's ok. Sometimes if theres enough time,round our parents during the year they get out the scrabble board,we all love scrabble.

I think the generation today has lost touch with everything. It's all about technology these days.

We play Scrabble at home and take a travel one camping along with playing cards and dominoes. Grandsons favourite game was Pictureka its a good family game.

we're big on boardgames here.

Twizzle is fantastic and the favourite of my daughter with special needs. She also likes 'UNO'.
My husband and I like to play cards and we have the super duper delux version of cluedo.
My younger daughter loves a game called 'doodle dice'
Me and the girls will often while awa an afternoon with a jigsaw puzzle and I always do a huge puzzle after xmas. Starting the day after boxing day, it stays on the table untill completed (usually new years eve) as a kind of visual reminder that I'm done cooking till the new year.
We also enjoy some of those boardgames that also use technology.
We've got one where the dvd plays random disney clips about which you have to answer questions to move round a traditional board.

I think boardgames are how kids learn a lot of their manners, taking turns, co-operating, encouraging and so on.

We play a lot of board games too. My daughter would rather play a board game than play a computer game - only problem is when she wants to play monopoly because it can go on for hours so now we play for a couple of hours and then leave it to continue the next day if needed.

But we enjoy the usual suspects like cluedo, scrabble, ludo, snakes and ladders, mouse trap, connect 4, top trumps and lots of card games. We always take lots of travel games on holiday and the TV stays off.

One thing I've noticed is that some of the modern versions are not very well made. Someone bought us a guess who game and the plastic is so flimsy to how I remember the original being and the cards often fall out. It's very badly designed.

When I was in my twenties my mate and i went into a pub where these old men were playing a version of dominoes i think it was callled Maltese cross.They were playing for matches and invited us to join in. Amazingly we won every game. Then they suggested making it more interesting by playing for money, we were winning every game so i felt guilty to take money off these kind old gents but on the other hand this wave of greed washed over me and I was in. Two hours later I left the pub having lost my entire weeks wages.

At home my wife and I and some friends regularly play cribbage, a great game in my opinion.

My OH plays a lot of backgammon... on his computer/tablet

My boys play chess with the OH, he sits downstairs with his laptop and they are upstairs on theirs occassionaly I hear a thunder along the landing and "Dad, why won't you give me a take back!" although when we go on holiday the board (and clock) comes too.
On rainy boring Sunday's when there's no rugby we often get out scrabble, mastermind or tumble down. Christmas when the young cousins are around, it's kerplunk, draughts or twister

I love boardgames and jigsaws. At the moment me and my youngest are through a chess phase with a few games every night (I'm totally hopeless). From time to time we play monopoly, scrabble, downfall, mastermind and game of life....I'd love to play more often but the kids are more interested in their digital games.

We've a family tradition of playing trivial pursuit in teams on xmas evening - it's the best part of the day I think.

I play games (not just board) with friends. I like Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit but they're tastes run more to Cluedo, so I've only played Scrabble and TP a few times at Christmas with my children since Brian died.

My favourite, though, is a card game called Super Taki. It's similar to Uno but has an extra card that gives a unique twist to the game and leads to a lot of name calling. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taki_(card_game)

I've never heard of lots of these games
Some I've heard of, like Cluedo, but never played!
We used to play draughts a lot, as kids, and a few years ago, a friend and I decided to play it again. Unfortunately, neither of us could remember how to set up the board, so we put all our pieces out like chess, one on every square of the first 2 rows.
It was an "interesting" game - went on for hours until we gave up in despair and looked up the rules.

The kids played draughts this morning. We had to sit there and remember the rules been such a long time since we played it.

Our two children are grown up now but they still love board games. We have a games day at our house every month or so. We always seem to have a new game to try, because the kids follow some internet site where they play and review all the games as they come out.

Current favourites are Munchkin (hilarious and very competitive), Ticket to Ride (nice relaxing game of building trains to cross the USA), Settlers of Catan (simple-ish strategy game of settlement and building), Tsuro: The Game of the Path (beautiful, quick and deceptively simple). The old ones like Monopoly get the occasional outing as well.

We love games.
