The skin is the best bit on custard, rice pudding, hot chocolate.

What was the Sea Urchin like?

Like Oysters. Taste of the sea!
Tried them in Sicily. I asked a local, who had collected a bag of them, what they were like (in my best Italian ). Next thing, he'd whipped out his knife, cut into the shell, and offered me the contents on the end of his knife. You don't refuse anything offered by a Sicilian with a big knife

I loooove Marmite and it's fake variants and Vegemite. On crackers, on toast, stirred into shepherd's pie......

I've been meaning to try Scallops with black pudding. Must do that soon.

I've always been partial to whitebait. Pub menu staple for a lot of years but quite hard to find now Some people don't like the idea of eating a whole fish (regardless of size). One South African friend has a large aquarium, and literally sees this as bait and nothing more. He would never even consider eating this culinary delight (especially with a wedge of lemon and tatar sauce on the side). His loss

I can't stand Chinese food (though don't mind Thai), calamari, shellfish, pork.. and tomato ketchup.. YUCK!

I like strong flavours, so I put mustard in more things than would be considered normal (got to be Colemans English though). And I hated liver as a kid, but now quite like it (lamb only)

This thread brings to mind a programme I often watch when I'm crafting called 'Bizarre Foods America' by Andrew Zimmern

Worth watching to see what can actually be served!

Never seen that Nicos looks worth a watch (not just before or after dinner though!).

After reading the replies I quite fancy trying a few new things to eat

Things I struggle with are rollmop herrings. I went to quite a lot of trouble to make some of these once, then couldn't eat them. Also: whelks. And sago. And milky tea. Another thing that makes me gip is serving hot food with cold food, e.g. hot new potatoes with ham. Bleuurghh! Also I really don't like fruit dipped in chocolate, or chocolate flakes in ice cream cones, yuk.

As for things I do eat that others might not... hmm after reading this thread, I feel pretty tame on that score though I do love black pudding and squid. And mussels. Have eaten snails and enjoyed them, but not from the back garden!

As for skins on things... I like the chewy skin you get when making jam, and rice pudding skin, but custard skin makes me heave, even the idea of it.

Absolutely love lightly seared wood pigeon breast and sometimes eat the heart and liver. Also, don't get to make it very often but freshly caught mackerel fillets eaten uncooked in a marinade of onion, lemon juice, white wine vinegar and olive oil is a definite treat. Lambs hearts cut into strips and stir fried make a tender and inexpensive meal.
