  • good blender recommendation please

It is time for a new blender

My existing one is rubbish, the seals have gone on it, and it simply will not perform as well as I need it to.

    It is years old!

Can anybody recommend a good one?

I'd like it to be easy to clean, and it needs to be able to cut through biggish stuff like chunks of onion, bell pepper, courgette etc...

I'd also like to be able to use the same blender to produce a very fine cut, to grind up my dried chillies into powder.

A bonus would be if it could also be used to easily make smoothies....

    Any advice welcomed.

    THank you

I recently bought the above, seems to do everything I've asked it too so far, including chopping veggies and grinding spices.

OH has just bought a second hand kenwood chef mixer
And been busy buying all the attachment.
Only problem is it made from solid metal and its extremely heavy and all the bits take up
      alot of room
The blender grinder attachment are made from glass

It can handle anything that you throw at it with ease

Very easy to make bread dough .

Wouldn't go back to the modern plastic ones now.

I've got a Kenwood Chef mixer with the heavy glass liquidiser /blender. The Mixer lives on the worktop and is used regularly but, since I got a Tefal stick blender, the big heavy blender hasn't left the cupboard. The stick blender is so handy. It gets used daily and now lives on the worktop. I use it for soups, herbs, mayonnaise, nuts, Yorkshire pudding batter, breadcrumbs, milkshakes and loads more things. It came with the same attachments as the Breville mentioned earlier but also with a balloon whisk. It is so easy to clean. I just stick the end in the washing up water and turn it on for a few second and its sparkling clean. The big one has to be taken to pieces to clean.

I was going to say that a stick blender is really good for most of the things you mention an a doddle to chean too. Use it for soups and smoothies in particular. If you get one that you can connect to a little processor then you can do small amounts of loads more too.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

We've got a vitamix and although it was very expensive it does everything from making dough, grinding spices, making ice cream and also hot soup. It's also really easy to clean which is the best bit

Stick belnders just aren't that efficient. For really smooth soups you need a proper blender . Those small mills are good for your chillies. I love them for small preparations and herbs. I've heard wonderful things about the Vita mix but I have an inexpensive setup - Russel hobbs robot and blender then I also use a Moulinex Multi trio little mixer. It takes a while to get the right set up for your needs.!!! So many tools to get the job right.

I have an old Kenwood with a blender which is ok but tend to 99% of the time use my bamix stick blender. I has a small bowl attachment which will render sugar into icing sugar, nutmegs into powder and will each chillies. It makes making mayonnaise bomb proof and quick. It is without doubt the one kitchen gadget that I count as essential.

I totally disagree with the first part of your post, My bamix stick blender makes a very smooth soup indeed and is far easier to clean (a few seconds under a tap) than a traditional blender. The added bonus is you don't have any extra washing up and a tool that can turn sugar into icing sugar in seconds.

I tend to buy a new food processor from the local charity shop every year, after 400 pounds of apples for cider it's knackerred anyway

I'd disagree too, a decent stick does a really good job and is far less faff than a liquidiser (as well as taking up a heck of a lot less storage space). Never felt the need to make icing sugar though so can't comment on the ability of my stick to do that

Well, I'm convinced you don't get the same mouth feel with a stick blender and I'm sticking to it hahaha
