  • Does anyone name their Allotment or garden?

My wife and I have just been discussing my allotment and she has told me that she does not like it when I reference "my plot" as she feels it's morbid. I suggest I call it "my lottie" but of course she doesn't like that as it sounds like another woman!

As I have plot 51 she has now decided it will be known as "area 51" After 31 years of marriage I have learnt not to disgree too often

Does anyone else have a name for their plot or should I start looking for help for her

I say I'm "going up the lottie" but it's not a name as such, it's just the same as saying I'm going to work or my friend's house.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I have two half plots that aren't together they are split up by another plot to the side and one below so are really diagonal to each other.
Being original I have Plot 1 which is mainly fruit. Very boggy with heavy soil plus an under ground spring in it somewhere.
Then there is Plot 2 which I got this year. That is now down to veg. Good soil but full of horse tail and tree seedlings.
When we get to site the kids say which one to go to and we say either 1 or 2 and they go straight to it to start working.
Might have to work on names for areas. Even in my allotment diary I have Plot 1 and Plot 2 plus what the really plot numbers are in the allotment plot like 34a and 36.

We started with a bed on someone else's plot so when we got our allotment we had Patch or Plot but now it tends to be "Lottie" which was my Grandma's name too!

The first half, is called the sukh shaanti garden-translates as peace and happiness. The second half, is called Project Othello, and Shakespeare the rose sits near Falstaff the Apple tree.

Whereas for Mama H, it's 'over the road'.

We had a outhouse put on the back of the garage when we moved in

I'm "on shed" when I'm out there tinkering about " on plot " ie the garden

On shed is railway term when steam locos were on depot
After my other main hobby or interest

My first plot was named "Lost" by my wife (as in Lost The Plot) so when I took on an adjacent plot that naturally became "Found"... So Lost and Found!

When I'm off to the allotment, I sometimes say I'm off to visit number 10 down the street. It amuses me at least.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.
