The extension part 1

Well I have taken the challenge to extend the garden a little bit more...... again!

My garden backs on to a canal but there is a very steep embankment. The land has now been cleared of bushes, junk etc and the building materials are due tomorrow.

Plan to put in a stairway to make it more accessible and then the fun will begin!

Yes the trees will stay it is just the brambles and two car loads of other peoples junk that have gone!

Stairs may not be straight but nothing else in the garden/lottie is so the rustic theme continues :-)

Heavy lifting is an understatement! I have found a sofa, broken bottles, bits of cars today. All now taken to recycling centre. Back is a tad sore now!

That reminds me ......rope need to find a supplier as I plan to use that as a hand rail for the stairs......

I'm incredibly envious of anyone who can extend their garden... if I were to try that I'd have to knock down my back neighbours house first...

It looks like an exciting and rewarding project so I'll deffo try and keep up with the updates!

I did not have any garden when I moved here, but thanks to some waste ground and lovely neighbours it seems to grow in size every year. Rather a strange lay out though!

As a steep garden owner myself with 200 steps to my name, you may want to dog leg your steps a bit, takes away the vertigo feeling when you look down a flight and worry about going head over heels down into the canal. Also, make sure you have some "landings" to stop on to admire the view (or catch your breath).

Mandy, you may need to stock any landing some Kendal mint cake, oxygen and a defibrillator!!
But that is really an ambitious project. Looking forward to see how you progress.

Good point VC, was thinking of a view point! 200 steps, wow that is some going do you have a cafe half way?

Can I ask what you used for a hand rail? I am looking at hemp rope but open to suggestions.
