The person who posted that hasn't tried anything else, and doesn't know that the method they are suggesting is not a good idea. Thus I think a "badge" might help Newbies attach more weight to posts with a n appropriate badge ... otherwise they are just going to go on Post Count eh Bigmally?
But I have no strong views on this, and as I said in my other post this is not my Gaff, and I am happy with whatever The Powers That Be decide.

Special titles have been awarded to a few members who have given a lot to the community, an ex-mod who no longer posts here & also to an active member who hit over 20k posts (I think that was the number anyway), with the vast majority of them being good advice
I like the idea of a badge though, it'd be a bit more obvious to newbies to forums as opposed to a title - similar to as you say!
