  • Playing Pooh Sticks at allotment

    Hi everyone.
Just been down to allotment first time since before Christmas. Have been poorly with a cold bug, just full of grot not nice at all.
Anyway I have a bottom plot on a hill/slope. The guy before me did put drainage in but have found the plot is absolutely saturated. Have got standing water everywhere. The open drainage I can see is like a little mini river. Kids found some leaves to race down the water. Kept them happy for ages.
Going to be quite a while until it is workable me thinks.

We put a land drain in on our allotment site last year, today the place is flooded and on the slopes are those little rivers you mentioned. Given the amount of rain we had over the last few weeks this is hardly surprising, and the drain was never expected to stop flooding. But now when it stops raining the ground water level goes down at the rate of 25mm a day - previously it just sat there for weeks. The important thing is how long before your land is workable, and the question is - when is it going to stop raining?????????
