  • Living Roof

Just wondered if many people have heard of them? I think theyre are fantastic but have only seen them on TV and magazines. Am thinking of having one on the future chicken coop and future "wendy house" for my little girl. they probably wont be built until next year.Anyone else got the same sort of ideas? xx

a garden centre near us in staines has a living roof and of course the eden project in glorious Kernow has one over the cafe bit. looks interesting but dont think my shed roof would take the extra weight, (might be a bit of a bugger to keep the growth in check as well) besides the shed roof is used to fill the water butts.

      Hi

I work for a company that build timber-frame houses. We have regularly been asked about living roofs so we are now making some houses with a bit of steel in the roof frame to cope with the extra weight. Mostly use sedum plants.

Hi Stacey, there's a fair bit of info out there on them. I hav thought abut one for the lottie shed as it's corrugated steel and bakes in the summer & drips condensation in the winter !! This would give a bit of insulation from temperature variations.

I'll mail you the leaflet from English Nature about them.

The local urban farm has one and If you go to a wildfowl and wetlands trust reserve they usually have a green roof on the reserve building.
