What do you wear on your feet when working in the garden? I suffer from swollen ankles and feet, so I end up wearing sandals I should know better, but nothing else is comfortable and (touch wood) I haven't had any accidents - although I do wonder if my fall last week was due to the sandals and not to the hosepipe ....

Depends on what I'm doing and the weather. Today I've been digging, so I'm wearing an old pair of walking shoes. If I'm just weeding, I wear cheapo crocs and get dirty feet

I wear Crocs but then I wear them all the time apart from when I'm at work, going hiking or doing proper digging.

I use an old pair of golf shoes. Decent grip and waterproof.

An old pair of deck shoes unless it's very muddy in winter, then I wear wellies.

My work boots; which I bought when I first got this job 3 years ago and I think apart from being ill, I've worn them every day since. They are good and sturdy and I don't slip in them, but mainly I don't get bitten on the ankles which I hate.

Crocs or trainers this time of year........fur lined wellies in winter

Wellies (decent neoprene 'spensive ones) when the ground's wet. Hiking boots ('spensive ones, second-hand on eBay) the rest of the time.

I love my Cr0cs, but they're not robust enough for 'proper' gardening and I can't abide gritty/dirty feet (or hands, which is why I wear gloves). Trainers have the comfort, but are not usually waterproof/robust enough for me.

Pair of the slip on shoes from Cotten Traders. Nothing to tie and the soles have to be one of the hardest wearing materials I have met. haven't done much in the way of digging with them and that tends to wreck soles pretty fast.

Is that the suede ones with the elasticated side bits and the grippy sole, Kirk? I wear those all the time - so comfy and that's what I was wearing to dig with today

😃 Me too! Crocs are fab as far as I'm concerned. I wore merrells to do some of the harder core digging this weekend. They ended up clogged with mud and filthy. Today I wore my crocs in the same areas and nothing. All clot free

When I've run my trainers into the ground and buy new ones, the old ones go to the lottie. Hate wearing wellies in summer if I can help it, nothing worse than sweaty feet and shins!

I use a pair of decent walking boots. I've had them for probably about 12 years now and still like new Scarpa - brilliant make.

I wear a pair of trainers (cheap from Aldi) while it's dry. Wellies when wet (once I have got rid of the spiders that seem to accumulate in them ugh)

Steelies for digging, mock crocs for pottering and I have a pair of cut-off wellies for paddling around in the damp. I try not to wear flip flops having slid off them last year and broken my ickle toe.
