  • Old Bean!

When I joined this forum my first post was about my runner bean! At the time my runner bean that grows in a pot in our bedroom window had just had its fifth birthday! Now it's about to have its seventh birthday! It is looking a bit old now and didn't have so many leaves or much growth this year...but who would have thought that a runner bean could live so long?! Its never actually had a flower or a bean though, but maybe one day!

Maybe it deserves to be in the Guiness Book of Records!

They are perennials in their native environment. Which is why it keeps on growing.

Are they from hot climate? So they wouldn't survive a winter outside in a cold climate then?

Well, it's looking a bit feeble at the moment or I would've posted a photo!

They hate my hot climate and rarely set any beans - too dry (hollow laugh, this year) I'm guessing.

Oh, well I wonder where runner beans come from. Perhaps I should have a runner bean bed, maybe they'd come up every year without having to plant new ones.
