Difficult to explain but basically what you are looking for is,the point at which the applied layer has evaporated enough solvent to not show subsequent brushstrokes,but not so much that the solvent in the new coat will not easily soften the previous enamel coat before evaporating.If you get it right the multiple coats will bond together as if they were one thick coat but without the worry of trying to apply a single thick coat which would suffer from unequal coverage over the length of the nail & probable "sagging" of the coating near the tip.He who smiles in the face of adversity,has already decided who to blame

Saw a woman in the supermarket with very nicely painted toenails, all I really wanted to do was find out if they tasted as good as they looked
I think that was the effect she was wanting to get.

I haven't painted my toenails in years but for my holiday in Spain I painted them lilac. Now they are a deep blue/purple.Comment

I happened to be around about a minute after Jules posted this thread, and started a reply of 'yes... and as to the colour....' but work stuff went a bit crackers and I didn't get round to completing my words of wisdom.
The topic has moved on somewhat - and I have learned an astonishing amount about all sorts!
Back to the original Q though - I'm sure that Jules is now fully versed on the desirability of toe-nail painting.
Just the COLOUR thing - I was told when I had my colours 'done' (I'm 'Autumn' doncha know) to match my nail colour with my season. So I do coral/orange (to set off a tan) rather than pink/red (to make my skin look blotchy and unhealthy - works well for me.

Deffo! For me, it's summer and having toes wiggling in the sunshine is heaven. Coral is this year's colour - well here it is, and it goes with my new walking sandals from Decathlon

How I envy you guys. I have skanky toenails on my right foot (fungal infection) and so I am applying a medicated lacquer to try and kill it! So I would only be able to paint my left foot! I have to cover up this year

I really fancy buying some scarlet peep toe shoes now......to go with my new red toenails. Any excuse...
I don't own any flipflops or sandals, so nobody will see my toenails, but I know what wickedness lurks inside my shoes
