My SWMBO's 65 and still wears 3" heels, maybe the rest of the party feel they might be left in the shade.

Vikki, I've got a black suede cropped biker jacket to wear over it if it gets chilly.

Eirish, you're right about the arm.....there is something not quite right. I think it's the underarm bodice seam or possibly the front armscye - I thought the underarm bodice seam needs to come in maybe a centimetre and there possibly needs to be tiny darts in the front armscye. I can't tailor that to myself though because the line goes squiffy when I put my arm up to pin it. I will get my Ma to look at it next week.

I have a hard enough time with armscyes and shoulders in knitting, and that's nice and stretchy and pretty forgiving. Can't imagine doing it with flat slippery woven fabric! And yes, definitely not on oneself. Good luck with it.

Oh, and I'd vote for a pashmina/stole rather than a cardi for a special occasion. Much more elegant, and wouldn't cover up that lovely little waist.

I have a hard enough time with armscyes and shoulders in knitting, and that's nice and stretchy and pretty forgiving. Can't imagine doing it with flat slippery woven fabric! And yes, definitely not on oneself. Good luck with it.

I do have a stole. A vintage 1930s pure black mink.......

(and before anyone says, I know it's fur, I know how cruel that all was and I agree it shouldn't be allowed now. But I didn't kill it eighty years ago, and it would be a waste not to use it)

How fab would that be! Although I like the idea of the suede biker jacket too, hmm. Either one would cut the sweetness of the dress and make it say 'grown-up confident woman' rather than 'fifties debutante'.

If peeps think differently about it- they should see some of the clothes and shoes some 60yr old+ women wear over here!!!!
I'm getting used to seeing them but I used to think you'd need to be a fashion conscious teenager/ 20yr old in the UK to get away with wearing them

That's lovely, Jules. Fab colour, too. If you like it, and feel confident in it, then I say 'Go for it!' As others have said, your family may just be feeling a little threatened. (And, s*d what yer dappy sister says anyway! )

Have to say that I'm envious of people with your shape. I'm high-waisted, and even at my thinnest I have the most awful 'child-bearing' hips (I could carry one on each side, with ease! ), so that style of skirt would stick out horizontally!!!

I'm trying to do something about my upper arms - got one of those shake weight things, but I end up in fits of laughter when I use it. And the BH's eyebrows shoot up into his hair and disappear - lord only knows what goes through his mind.......

You, TS, are quite obviously a genius.....I need to get a decent photo though. Possibly wash the hair and put on some make up. I did tweak the pattern, so a review might help someone.

This evening I've completed the bodice for Vogue 8789 (view B) and I've fiddled with that too - CBA with silly facing so I've completely lined the bodice instead - much easier, so far!

I've also made a muslin for Vogue 2960,but I'm so pleased with it, I have to get some fabric to turn it into a full dress. I gave the facings a miss on that one too, and went for a contrast lining.

Facings are a PITA, linings are better and pretty much just as quick.
