Eldest has waterproof laminate in her kitchen and so far is happy with it......we have tiles and laminate through the rest of the house except the stairs and landing. Only laminate that has worn is the cheapy glue together stuff that was all that was available many moons ago .

You can buy soild wood for the cost of a good laminated floor
I spend most of my time when working ripping out lamented flooring.
That can take odd small spill. Burst pipe or bucket full will cause it to swell
If its on a concrete floor put a good underlay down first
