Loyalty

Last week, 30 years service came & went just like any other year. This left me feeling how can I say, worthless & empty..........should we expect recognition of loyalty or should I be grateful I have got a job....................is recognition a thing of the past?

It would be nice if they noticed! Mind you, these days I think it's better when they don't notice you, because you still have a job then.

Thirty years in the same job! Never going to happen to me, I like a change.

Oh, that's a bit sad that they didn't acknowledge it somehow BM. These days, I think every 5 years ought to be marked somehow, even if it's just a little thank-you card, seeing as everyone seems to be constantly on the move now.

Well Congratulations from me. I think recognition of being a long-term employee and doing a good job went out the window when the Personnel Depts became Human Resources. My bug bear employees are not a Resource to be used up but are an ASSET!

Congrats on your long service BM I suppose it depends on who you work for, mines a small local firm and we receive awards at 10, 20 and 30 years.

No, our long serving gurus always get some recognition...even if it's cake at break time made by us and brought in.

I suppose it being 'christmad' everyone forgets that other things happen not related to christmad and can't cope with it.

As you know BM, I work in the Health Service too and we have Long Service Awards for 20 and 30 years, with a thank you ceremony from the Head of the Board of Governors and the Chief Exec (I picked my 20 up a few years ago), I suppose it depends on the Trust you work for. I'd suggest it to your Trust Board, a loyalty reward goes a long way towards staff engagement.

Many Congratulations to you, it's sometimes a very difficult job you do, particularly when there is an increasing shortness of beds, or ward closures due to these awful bugs. Keep smiling - I'm sure you are highly valued, even if it goes unrewarded.

Its a public v private sector thingy. I worked in the civil service for 30+ years and when I retired my "Thank you" was a letter from the Department Head - it was on quality paper though so that made me feel valued

Over the last few months I've come to conclude that long service / experience is not valued. In my husband's office they have just made the experienced staff redundant including him. So today is his last day in his current job. On Wednesday he starts a new job within the same office but a grade lower and 20% less money. However his old work will still need doing but there's no-one else who knows how to do it so they'll have to ask him. So doing the same job for less money. I will have been teaching 24 years this year, 20 at the same school. Recognition not likely. Still I do have a job.

my better half's 30 years in her job coincided with a night out the staff paid for for themselves. She was already tee'd off because no mentionof the anniversary had been made at work but oneof her colleagues mentioned the fact to the company owner who immediately went to the bar and bought a bottle of champagne which she took to said better half opened and held out a glass to be filled for herself. I was disgusted and would have left to go home but better half felt she had to stay. As you indicate BM,. a job is a job.

I worked for a company that ran service awards and the managers always forgot, so your expectation of getting a pen, or a pot to ....., an eagle or some other tat is not always as great as it seems
Congrats on thirty years in employment - that in itself is reward I think although it would be nice if the admin/HR noticed your start date.

A Badge! OOOH! You lucky thing! Seriously though, a badge who dreamed up that idea? Can you just imagine the brainstorming session.... "I know, after 30 years of service we'll give them a ... badge! Everyone likes badges!" Well Done for 30 years though - that is a huge achievement whether we're in a recession or not! I haven't done anything consistently for 30 years... nope, nothing at all springs to mind, well, there's breathing i suppose...
