      Joanna,

Turning the boiler of overnight shouldn't have any ill effect.

Whats going to happen overnight is the system will go cold and the water will have contracted so before you start up in morning the check the system pressure it should be somewhere near back to 1 bar. Let me know tomorrow please.

Stupid question time, do you cycle and if so do you have a pump for your tyres? There is a good reason for this question anyone who comes up with the right answer gets a virtual lollipop.

      Colin.

I shall let you know first thing.

I don't have a bicycle pump but I have one for my exercise ball!!

I can't put my finger on why you're asking.....but guess it must be something to do with injecting air into the system somewhere.....increasing pressure.....creating an airlock? I haven't a clue so will stop waffling!!

Oh and I bled all the rads today but they were all fine.

To pump up the pressure vessel on the back of the boiler
In had an issue where my old boiler would spike pressure from 1 bar to 3+ in just a few minutes, I thought it was some trapped pressure so had a fumble round and found the valve and let the pressure out....when I spoke to a friend of the family who was a plumber he told me there should be pressure in there and to get a bike pump to pump it back up

        Lollipop ...?

Good try but no cigar I am afraid.

Does your pump have the same fitting as a bike tyre pump? If so you may well need it tomorrow.

          Colin

Most surprised VC hasn't picked up on this one.

Spot on my friend spot on. Except this boiler will be easy as the expansion vessel sits right on the front not in an awkward spot round the back.

Yep thats the system waters cooling and allowing the pressure to drop, any sign of water outside at the discharge pipe?

I always you knew you were versatile, Potty!
Believe it or not, I'm finding this thread really interesting because I too have an oil combi boiler. Maybe I should invest in a bicycle pump in case I need to pump something up that has gone flat. I could use it on the boiler too!

What a memory!! It has been tampered with now and is no longer a combi but a "system" boiler with a thermal store for solar heated hot water. Touch wood, it all seems to be working according to plan!
                                But back to the banter..........
