How did this slip past us - not even heard it mentioned on the radio.
My Croation friend (male) is busy spoiling the ladies in his life with flowers and token gifts, its a big thing out there and considered rude in men fail to observe this day.

Ah- now then...I was first aware of 'Ladies Day' when on holiday in Venice.
Strangers came up to me several times and gave me small bouquets or sprigs of mimosa- explaining that it was a 'nice thing to do!'

How lovely is that???!

and so - to all the lovely ladies on the Vine, I offer you your own bouquet of mimosa....

Aww how lovely Nicos, thank you. I was discussing this with some of the Nursing staff who were saying that they had been inspired by the story of Mary Seacole and her dedication during the Crimean War. I wonder how many ladies on the Vine have taken inspiration from another woman?

the flowers are a nice idea-
However...the posters i have seen advertising this (international woman's day) in the uk are utterly offensive- showing frumpy women sitting with coffee and cup cakes. PLLEEASE! Chance would be a fine thing. Talk about reinforcing a stereotype- the graphic designer ought to (be shot?) have produced a poster of women around the world juggling(multi tasking)- giving birth,children, husband, sex, sport, education, money, pets, house blar blar... the lot.
CUP CAKES AND COFFEE????????, for gods sake. and another thing- why do they suggest selling cakes to raise money- omg, it makes my blood absolutely boil. breath breath- feel better now. sorry folks!

I love it when absolute strangers give you flowers in the street. Its not a British thing though, unfortunately. We're too strait-laced!
