Following the retro sweet thread. When did you first go to the chippie?

How cheap were your chips?

I remember in the dim and distant mid seventies.

A five of chips.........5p a portion.....

Can you do better??

I don't want to muddy the waters in Newton's thread which prompted me to have a look at the level of plot rents present and past.

A half rent for a Council owned plot in Aberdeen in 1996 was �13.85 and is now �38.50.

(believe it or not, there are privately owned plots locally where the rent is a whole �1.

last year, the tenants there were asked to pay an extra �10 for the use of a digger to improve the site but the rent remains at �1)

What are the comparable rents on your own sites?

Council sites in Torfaen borough (there are approx 39) charge a maximum of �20 which includes rental and association fees. Water I think is included.

My site is privately owned and a full plot costs �18. The rental was increased last year from �14 where it had been for quite a few years. Cost of water (one tap between two plots) is included, also association fees. We have a "shop" on site and we can buy seeds, lime, compost etc., cheaply.

I've tried looking at SDDC parish council notes and you can't pull up the costs anymore. I swear I found some reference when I looked last year.
I've burnt my cheque book stubs too. Damn!

Our allotments are �10 full plot �5 half plot, and have been since I first got one about 5 years ago, water taps are every other plot and water is included. The plots sizes are roughly 300sqm full plot.

I'm onto a good thing here, So I'll not say it too loud.

Whitmore road lottie's in Taunton �22 for a full plot or �11 for half (just gone up from �20 & �10)
TBH i'd pay double that for my patch if earth.....
we have water standpipes on site but nothing else, no meeting room or real security but then there are local houses which back onto it and very little problems

At the mo water is free, 3 standpipes on site, but they are 'thinking about this'. I bet they are as we are in a drought

Crumbs! Free for pensioners? - On my site it would mean that over 90% of us would be rent free

We pay �40 for a full 20rod/1/8th Acre plot .....there are water tanks around the site , we have a shop, hut for teas coffees etc, a thriving social committee for those who are interested. We get bark chippings, lawn mowings, leaves dropped free for any plot holder to use. Senior Citizens pay a bit less ..

�39 for a full plot plus compulsary purchase of �10 of raffle tickets (5 in spring and 5 at xmas), which effectively could be sold on to family and friends but this is not enforced and it always ends up the same people who buy them so there have been discussions about scrapping that and increasing the rent to �49.
