My house has massive oak beams holding it up, three on each floor (cellar, main floor, attic) so your picture did not surprise me - not that i know anything about building......beam ends or anything....

How high did you make the raised beds? To use that lot i'm guessing about 6' in old money!

            high or long?

I think they're just over 8' in length, I'd planned on 10' lengths as this worked well in my garden. They're 5' wide - more like sections than beds though. Probably a bit wide for most people, but easily workable for me - the main reason for using them was so that my little one knows where she can and can't go, bar her own little bed

Now concentrate! When I say "High" I mean Height! So 6' high would be about 1 foot taller than I am. I often measure things by standing beside them or, which gave the workmen more of a laugh. by lying down on the ground! So a 10' x 5' bed would be two of me x one of me. I don't do height though when I'm laying down!!
BTW I'm very pleased that your little one has a bed of her own.
