Because the EU are the masters of ridiculous rules I think its sometimes the case of " If anyone asks, tell them its an EU ruling!" and everyone thinks "Yeh, that'll be right!"

I googled the question and nothing came up relating to UE rules and mats. A whole of load of our cousins from across the pond asking the same question did though. Some from a couple years back, all pertaining to rented apartments and door mats. Don't think its a law there but the rumor probably drifted across the ocean :-/

No! Have you asked the housing association concerned for a copy of the legislation stating the issues/laws re: doormats. Box em in a corner. Or call it an outside carpet - it is not a doormat!

Mr Z's dad's wife is worse than me about these sorts of things; so she probably will when I tell her it's a load of cobblers. She's a serial complainer but always always gets her money back when she doesn't get what she is expecting.

Again, she has NO issues over the actual H&S issue - it's being lied to that she/we do not appreciate.

I took it upon myself ton spend 45 mins researching.

After reading an article in Health and Safety International I feel I now have a small understanding..

My belief is that there is legislation under The EU Health and Safety at work ruling that all employees must not be exposed to obsticles that may cause a trip/fall.

I think the Council in question are using this as an excuse or over-reacting to a barmy rule.

However, in response to your original question my answer is now....probably yes, there probably is a law somewhere.

Yep know that one but it is specific to the workplace not domestic dwellings. Same as the working at height regulations.

Landlords do have a duty of care to their tenants but I can find nothing specific about trip hazards in domestic dwellings.
