How long is or was your commute?

Max for me was 45 mins. Max for hubby was 2 hrs....such a waste of time....and petrol.
OH used to listen to language tapes on the way into work- and to de-stress music on the way back.

If I get up on time its 25mins, if i'm up late its down to around 15mins!
It's about 8 miles, loads of speed limits...grrr and a university with traffic lights that the students always push when they see me coming!!

45 miles; 45 minutes with no traffic problems. When I am at schools though - it can be 2-3 hours to get there and the same back. A long long day.

Hmmm, we are thinking of jobs in Birmingham, but want to be fairly close (30-40mins) to my parents in Shrewsbury. I looked at trains from Telford and shocked at the cost, but that's another topic!

Chauffeured every day, 20 minutes each way if the traffic is quiet. Would take about an hour and a half on public transport.

Wow! An average speed of 60 mph from a standing start - you a racing driver Zaz? According to my trip computer, the best average I get is 30 mph and I leave home at 4.50am and return at 2pm, so no traffic to hold me up. Some twisty roads though.

OH drives a bit less than 20 miles, leaves early to miss the worst of the traffic. It takes about 40 minutes at best. Trains and railway parking are too expensive, bus journeys expensive and take too long.

The furthest I've travelled regularly was about 25 miles which, in winter, with the quickest route across rural roads with animals wandering about, was a nightmare I wouldn't want to repeat. I'm now from home whenever possible, but find the roads are busier and busier, and journeys take longer and longer.

When we moved here we drew a circle on a road map, radius 20 miles with OH's office in the middle, and only looked within the circle because we knew from experience that any further (distance and time) would mean too much driving, especially in winter.

I could be at my place of work about 30 seconds after rolling out of bed, the time it takes to get to the bottom of the stairs.

Used to be 45 min drive each way - now 1 flight of stairs down to the office (or 2 flights if I fancy working in the kitchen)

The longest one I've ever had was about 10 minutes when I was the buttermeister and the chicken killer, they were both local, and nobody is ever on rural French roads.
I had a commute of about 25 minutes when I was much younger but that was because I chose to run to work and back (as I said, I was much younger).
Been lucky I guess.

My furthest commute was about 20 minutes, but they used to send me all over East Anglia, Home Counties, Kent and London, so I got used to driving in every kind of situation. You DO actually get used to it, even Central London (but not without a navigator (Human or Electronic) for me ), to the point I have even taken a panel van, with trailer, through the City, more than once.

Now, however, it's rural roads, and my furthest job is less than 10 minutes away - and that's how I like it!

This afternoon I will be driving cross country from Biggleswade to Thame to talk to a man about a job. Google wants to send me via the A1/M25/M40 - which I know to be a mistake. Estimated time 1hr 26mins - 79 miles. I'm going more directly via home and it comes up with an estimated time of 1hr 44 and a distance of 51 miles. Thankfully, from home it would be less - but I'm still not sure I fancy a 1hr commute (on a good day).
