    Message from Dave in admin:

"Things are back up and running again. The problem is caused by the a fault with backups on our ads server. Subsequently the connection fails as the server refuses new connections. I'm investigating the best solution to ensure this never happens again.

    Thanks for your patience.

    Dave. "

Lets hope it all gets sorted

Thanks for sorting it out so quickly this morning Admin, much appreciated.

Thing with technology is that it goes wrong. Finding the culprit is very difficult especially where code is concerned. My OH often spends hours if not days trying to find an error in computer code and it's usually somehting as inane as a mis-spelt word that's the culprit or a single character in the wrong place or something 'pointing' to the wrong place (I'm sure there's a technical term for it but I don't know what it is). Difficult job - I wouldn't want it.

It's a shame Zaz, but I think you may be right. I still try to log on at weekends, but it's very very frustrating. I will persevere with the Vine but as you said I think a lot of the "old faithfuls" are deserting.

Ah I didn't realise that.. I "blocked" the ads via a different method so it was loading for me alright. Would be a shame to loose folk, I agree as it's a great community here!

You can't get rid of me that easily! I rallied my friend Percy Verance over the weekend knowing that it would be sorted today. Thanks Dave. All good things come to those who wait.

Tried to log on last night and it was painfully slow, couldn't even get the front page to load so gave up and read a book . Seems fine this lunchtime though.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I'd be interested to know too. We tend to rely on Ff add-ons and hadn't thought that adverts could be causing a problem.

I gave up trying to get onto the site over the weekend, it was even slower than the old dial-up used to be.

Since it was working I re-enabled them.. I blocked them via re-directing the server that the ads were hosted on to my local machine, so it in effect created a 404/not found error. I did this via the hosts file on my PC.

I'm still expecting a gremlin to pop out of my PC when it goes wrong.

Whilst I appreciate that tech problems can and often do take a long time to get sorted, it would appear that this is becoming a regular weekend feature and I tried to log on about a dozen times but gave up each time, as others obviously did too.
I have been on the Vine since the membership was counted in tens as opposed to thousands, with a short spell away for reasons undisclosed, and I cannot remember being this fed up with it. It IS a great forum, and almost without exception the membership is very helpful and friendly, not just with GYO related topics but with sympathy and hugs when required by fellow grapes. This is why these technical issues need sorted out once and for all or as others have stated before me, this could be the beginning of the end - I hope not, butit's already looking like costing us members.

MMmm, it's got to the point where I don't bother at weekend unless I'm waiting for tea to cook or OH to walk the dog.

To be honest I'd not really noticed that it was mainly a weekend thing as I don't log on much then as I'm too busy. During the week I have the have the computer on at work anyway so I'll often log in at lunch time even if only for a few minutes but, especially at this time of year, I tend to be either at the plot or sorting stuff round the house at other times so it's too much of a fag to log on as my puter takes an age to boot up
