OMG!!!! Red mite in chopping board!!!!

I have just turned our big butchers block style chopping board over and discovered tons of baby redmite in the cracks!!!!

Must be where we have collected a couple of eggs in the evening and put them on the kitchen side!!!!!

What the hell am I going to do???????? This means they could be in any wooden nook and cranny in the kitchen/house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would think that you'll be ok(could be wrong) but I would reason the follows :

All creatures need food to live, take away their food supply, and they die. By bringing them indoors, you've accomplished this. I'd be more worried about clearing up your red mite infestation at it's source

We had a massive infestaion in our old coop, so we have now dismantled all the coops (barr one, thats the next job) jays fluided, creocoted, poultry shielded and powdered everywhere!

Just got one coop left, out of 5!

I hate redmite, just the thought of them makes me itch!

Eeeew!Like RT says I doubt they'll survive long but guessing you want rid quick...I'd tip some boiling water over them if it were me.

I thought they could survive months without feeding? Do you have any birds in the house (not just chickens, but other pet birds)? If so, i'd be checking them, to see if they have any one them..then I'd be going around cleaning either with a steam cleaner or some seriously tough elbow grease and a load of disinfectant.

No other birds in the house thank goodness!

Well apart from the brooder but that is metal and down in the basement, quite a hike for even the most determined redmite! I didnt find any adult ones and they were only the side closest to where we put the eggs, so fingers crossed I have nipped it in the bud early enough!!!

But they are resilient, disinfectant (fit for human consumption) didnt budge them, hopefully the boiling water did the trick.....

Get some Smite. I buy the dilutable one with the pump dispenser, and keep a spray bottle made up ready. One soaking and they are no more. Mwaaaa-haaaa-haaaa

I think I'd be borrowing a steam wallpaper stripper and going round every crack near where you found them....
