Fundraising ideas

Hey guys and girls.

Some of you have been following Jamies story (my nephew). I wont go into the full details here but if you would like to know please follow the link on this thread. Anyway, Jamie has Diamond Blackfan anemia and has blood transfusions every 2 weeks to count he has had over 140 transfusions to date. he is connected to a pump 24 hours a day to lower his iron levels in his body as his little body is in iron overload.

Anyway, an option has been presented and his parents have decided to take it. In order to do this they need to raise �8,000 as it is not funded via the NHS. So we are looking for fundraising ideas, donations etc.

Any ideas? I have been thinking but I wouldnt even know where to start.

Have they set up a just giving site as its so easy to donate on them?

Local press?
Facebook campaign - its amazing how many people will pass something like that around.
Write to local companies and just ask them for money? Am thinking on line os don't ask, don't get!

Are there any nationwide organisations that could be applied to for one-off grants etc that could help boost the kitty?

Perhaps a local pub would be willing to hold a family fun day with a boot sale/BBQ/Raffle and get some local companies to donate prizes? (my younger sister did one a couple of years ago for the Bone Cancer Research Trust while Brad was in remission and raised several hundred)

De-clutter the house and flog stuff on ebay?

Do they have a selfless friend who would be willing to do a sponsored something (head shave/leg wax type thing? - like a big hairy bloke willing to go bald for a good cause?)

Apply for fundraising packs from folk like Big Red Nose Day, they and many others give loads of ideas of how to raise funds.

We did well with a Charity auction when we were fundraising for my sister...

We asked a local pub to host it, and contacted loads of local businesses, footy teams etc for prizes.

Tickets were about �5 and included entry and a hotpot supper, and the prizes were free (obviously!).

We had a signed footy shirt and ball donated from the local team, cases of wine, vouchers for local restaurants and beauty salons and supermarkets, a couple of large-ish kitchen gadgets (blender/mixer, and microwave etc)

Got the local pub quizmaster as the auctioneer and we raised about �1500 I think....

We also had information posters and donation buckets around, so even if people didn't win their auction, they could still donate!

What about an auction of promises? Gather your friends and get them to donate a skill they have and others can bid on them

It could be that that you have a friend who likes gardening and can donate a few hours work. Or a friend who is a beautician that could donate a manicure etc etc. It could even be that someone offers a few hours ironing, babysitting or a home baked cake.

It could be litterally anything, but doesnt need to be an actual item.

Hiya guys, thanks for the ideas.

Sorry I didnt reply sooner. Jamie is back in hospital again He has some sort of fungal infection. They initially thought it was tonsillitus but he was transfered to addenbrokes and they confirmed a fungal infection. With him being immuno-compromised its making it very tricky for them to shift it so its looking like a long stay for him.

I am thinking of making chocolate bouquets and selling them to raise funds. We are also looking at ways of doing online raffles. Im also helping others with their fundraising ideas. We have some freinds doing fun runs, half marathons etc. Pub events, bag packing in supermarkets etc.

Hopefully we shall be reaching the �8,000 in no time The NHS are having a review to see if they can help with funding at all. If there is any money left over or the NHS fund it completely it will be donated to DBA-uk.

A friend of mine who has a Pub has a charity evening every couple of years, she charged �6 this year for entry, she gives the drink, the entry includes a glass of something ( bubbly, wine ) and a raffle prize that she gets people to donate. She asks locals that sell stuff from home to set up a stall, this year was body shop, local second hand clothes shop, couple of card makers, jewelery makers / sellers, beachwood crafts. Things like that. She made for cancer charity something like �500 or more. Good evening mostly Ladies.
