Cat making me feel guilty!

Am I stupid for feeling guilty about putting my cat through getting a tooth extraction and clean?

He's had a bit of a tough life so far ( abandoned by the neighbours and living rough ) and now he's settled with me I always seem to be carting him off to vets for one reason or another.

So far he's had his "bits" removed, full set of vaccinations, two emergency treatments for bites and now this. He's an old git and I just can't help feeling that I'm being a bit mean.

The vet has advised me that he could do with it and I suppose if I do it now it will stop any future problems ... but you know when you just feel like a meany.

I know I'm being stupid ... someone tell me I'm a headcase then

Know the feeling- I'm just the same.

I have a sweet little stray that I had 'done' on Tuesday. I felt dreadful tempting him into the house and trapping him and carting him off to the vet.

Now the vet says he has to stay indoors till he is checked over on Saturday and pronounced fit for letting out again. He is so comfy here. Sadly he can't stay as my own cat is having a nervous breakdown at having another cat in her house, so I'm desperately trying to find him a home.

Guilt is not what you should be feeling my dear Piggle - it should be pride with all the care and love you have giving the darling fellow

My pal's cat had to have all his teeth out at only age 1� due to a problem with his gums - he has been perfectly fine and is so much happier since the problem was removed.

Jinny my avatar, was abandoned and was living rough for 16 months or so. He always came to my house and laid in the sunshine when he was a kitten, also had nibbles of food with me. So when he was injured from fighting and in a mess from fat being thrown at him he came to me. I took him to the vets for a check up, put drops on him for his terrible fee problem, got his flee allergy treated, then put posters up to see if I could find out who he belonged too, also went to the police station to see if anyone had reported him missing. After no one came forward for him I registered him at the vets under his POSH name of "Mr Jenkins", had him chipped and he's been with me now for over 5 years.
And to answer your question...yes, he makes me feel guilty EVERY time I take him to the vets , but I love him to little pieces and wouldn't swap him for a gold pig now. After everything he's been through he's so gentle, sweet and loving.

Thanks all I feel much better now... and he has got breath like a dogs a**e.
He's booked in for Monday which means I will be a nervous wreck all day.

Cats are so intelligent I think they know when you are helping them, even if they don't like the treatment they are getting. My recently departed 15 yo female came to us as a one year old ex stray and was riddled with ear mites. Initially she fought tooth and claw to escape when we put the drops in (she had to be wrapped up tightly in a towel) but by the end of the course she had realised that it was making her better and actually enjoyed having the stuff massaged into her ears, and from then on loved nothing better than jumping up for a good old ear rub.

So keep up the good work Piggle, he will appreciate it eventually I am sure.

I forgot to mention that if it's a lady vet he's fine, but if it's a man vet it's welding gloves and a chair . Piggle, we had a black & white full tom cat when I was little called "Nasher"...he lived up to his name & was about as sociable as a fart in a space suit .
Hope everything goes OK on Monday at the vets for him & you. I make Jinny cooked chicken mashed in fresh cream for a treat when he's been to the vet's, sounds yuk, but he loves it .

He's usually fine at the vet - although he always make a beeline for the bin for some reason.

It's quite funny though when they call him through as he's registered as Dr. Whiskers Hill so they also shout out Dr and Mrs Hill..... it's like going to a social event He got renamed the I-piggle by my husband and it's kinda stuck.

I felt dreadful taking Hibou to have her girlie bits 'done' after only having her for 3 weeks.
She's fine now- and clearly still loves us both. She even brought us one of her baby potatoes this morning as a treat!!

phew thank goodness that is all over ! In the end he needed two teeth out and a scale and polish, only 120 quid so I'm feeling rather lucky.

Last night he was completely spaced out ( too many pain killers ) he had eyes like bin lids. However today he is nearly back to his piggling self and has managed to wolf down a whole tin of tuna.... fat knacker

I've had a dreadful time at the vets today with Hibou.

I was expecting a quick nip in and a booster and a blood test to check the rabies has taken.

45 mins later , 2 vets ,and a nurse,and they finally got a blood sample
Needless to say she's stressed out- and so am I.
Poor gal has been stuck by needles everywhere- and her coat looks like a chess board of shaved patches. They even managed to bend 2 needles.

She's the quietest sweetest cat you can imagine and I really feel they've abused her.

They finally took the sample from her front leg- goodness knows why they insisted trying to take it from her jugulars- she's covered in bruises

I feel dreadfully guilty.
