    Yep we are doing the rounds for donations with variable success! I use asdaflower buckets and they are on my list to see at the weekend. Do you mean you can earth up without compost then in conatiners? Not hought of that, plenty of shreded paper at the school!

    After a wee search, seems recommended to pacvk the rim with straw and then put a plastic sack inside if any concerns?

    Also like he idea of painting them up with gloss paint!

      After a season of growing spuds in the tyre wall, and eating about 40 meals of tyre-grow spuds, neither of us have noticed any ill effects. If you are planning to grow mainly flowers and 'above ground' veg, I can't see why there would be a problem anyway.
      Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
