I would love to have a look, but it covers England & Wales, and I'm not aware of anything similar for Scotland. I know we have the Scottish Parliament these days, but I'm fed up of hearing about all these reports covering England & Wales, and I can never find an equivalent for here

Anyway, I digress - step-son found out that a car was damaged in his street just outside his house. He seemed excited by it

Sorry still going off track here, if you wear one of these, and happen to pick your children up from school on your bike. Would you expect other parents to pull you up over the camera attached to your helmet?

The site which I still can't get on, has to be a starting point. I've had my vehicle broken into and the culprit apprehended, but the prosecution service asked if I would waive the costs, as they were unlikely to be able to recover the cost.

      Whats the point.

I don't have it switched on if I'm not cycling*. I work in a school, I cycle to school. The camera gets turned off and removed to my handbag when I reach the school gate. Handbag stays in staffroom all day, along with my (camera) phone.

I have no problem answering people's questions about my thumb-size camera, but it's actually so discreet that most people don't notice it.
We are filmed all the time: there is CCTV on nearly every street and most shops are filming you too.

The only people who have objected to it (to me) are those who may have something to hide (bad drivers, or those aggression towards cyclists in general). If the police actually took action against bad drivers I wouldn't feel the need to use one at all.

by the by, I don't film everything all the time: the camera has only a 2 hr record time between charges, and it takes a long time to edit and publish videos.

        * actually I use it in the car now I'm driving again. It clips to the back of my rear view mirror - I send the film to a friendly driving instructor I know, and he gives me instruction & advice over the Net. Clever stuff

Steady now TS, I don't fit either of those categories.

I do however object to every man woman and child walking around with a camera in his or her hand film our every move.

You don't have to have something to hide not to want to be filmed at every moment of the day.

I agree with you - but don't tell me you don't watch & pass on You Tube clips like this one?

I'm not interested in the average Joe going about their business. When I edit my film, I delete passersby as far as possible and focus on what I'm focussing on.

I'd be much more concerned about what children are filming & watching on their mobiles.

I've seen this one before, but not passed it on, I agree with you on children, mobile phones are a great tool but kids have them far too young and far too expensive models. I'm not looking forward to the time DD wants one.

By the way, if I was that person falling into the pool, I would be in the process of prosecuting the company who allowed that to make it out of the security office.

Quite right. I used to work training CCTV operators and there are very strict rules regarding what you can video and who can see the footage.

Managed to get on the police uk site today, and wasn't completely surprised to be honest.

We had one anti social behaviour order in our immediate locality, however within 2km, there were 6 violent crimes, and 24 altogether.

This pretty much sums up what I already thought about our neighbouring estates, filled with nutters.

I do think that the site could be a positive addition, as it gives you contact details of local bobbies, it really should be a bit more specific about the nature of the crimes though, as violent crime really does cover a multitude of sins, and could make it out to be a lot worse than it is.

It will probably make me more conscious of our own security.

Apparently, there is no policing area that matches my location. Bit weird really, as the police station is about 1/4 mile from my house in the same postcode area....

Some of you already know- but I was a Homewatch coordinator when we lived in the UK.
We used to get monthly reports of all crimes in the locality which we'd send on to all members in our sector. Much the same sort of thing- but this is very very useful to check up with....hopefully more instant info?

I managed to get onto the site in the early hours to check it out ( for where we used to live)...interesting!

Oh. It's working now! Pleased to report not a huge amount of crime going on in my neighbourhood - and the local neighbourhood police are all listed there too. Some of them I know by name!
