Spend my money!!

Well, now that I've got your attention...

I was given �30 of vouchers for my birthday to spend at the nearest garden centre. I'd like something "proper" so I can show my sisters what they bought.

We have 2 apples, 1 plum and a very sick cherry that's getting hoiked out (lidl special jobbie, wish I'd never bothered). So it would be something small/shrub like. Prefer a fruit tree but am open to all suggestions.

Was also going to suggest a fig tree (and/or something to limit its roots). Spineless blackberries have been great for me too this year.

What about current bushes? I have red currents, there easy to take cuttings of so you can give them to friends. Or Gooseberry bushes, you can get some lovely sweet red ones now. But if you like figs I'd go for a fig bush/tree in a nice pot...fresh figs of your own tree are wonderful.

Forgot to say we're covered on the currants and gooseberry front too. I hacked my way into a bit of overgrown garden and found 2 currant bushes (red) and a large straggly gooseberry and a few that rooted themselves.

Might look at red goosebrry, figs and a new watering can. Think I may have to add some funds to the cause!!

I'd get a damson tree - after my sojourns into damson scrumping they really are fabulous.

First thing I bought when we came here was a damson and a tayberry. Both fruit like the blazes and you can't buy the fruits round here so it's something special - and people LOVE a jar of jam - onve they get into the swing of fruiting you could give one to the sisters each year. We waited 3 years for the damson but now we get over 50 lb a year!

The garden centre has quinces and medlar as well.

Adds damsons to the list.

What I was really coveting was a kumquat tree. It was �49.90

We do know BK that you will overspend! I'd go for the damsons.
