Thanks for all your ideas though. I think I will go down the DIY route of BM's with some raised planters like PB.
I have been saving lots of large granite stones from around the place, so should have enough. I knew it would come in handy one day.

I think pergolas are fantastic for adding height, interest, and a sense of journey to a garden.
Our garden is really quite small (13m x 12m), but adding something that big and dramatic has actually made it feel bigger by dividing it into compartments. It also creates a divide between our ornamental garden and our kitchen garden.
