Common Cold/Flu remedies???

I'm sitting here coughing and barking with my cup of coffee laced with whisky and got to wondering????? .......Any of you illustrious grapes out there have an old fashioned recipe / cure-all that works for you.?

Normally I don't get the dreaded lurgie but this year for some reason I seem to have succumbed..........Haven't missed a days work yet because of it, but had to cancel a meeting yesterday in case I infected everyone!

So come on, I'm desperate, I'll try anthing thats legal!!!

If I'm really full of cold I can occasionally get my Ma to pop round and make me a hot lemon concoction that makes me feel better. I think it goes a little like this:

Slice up 3 lemons, put them in a saucepan in about a pint and a half of water and simmer them for 10 mins or so. Take off the heat, and stir in a tablespoonful of live honey (can't for the life of me remember what it's called!). Drink it a little at a time, and it can also be drunk cold so you can make some up and take it to work.

Whether it really works or not is debateable, but it does seem to perk me up. Maybe it's just the fact that I feel like a little kid again with Mum fussing round me!!!!! lol

Snadger I haven't got a remedy to ease the symtoms - I'm tough!!

My Mum used to make the lemon drink like Muddy Sarah's Mum.

Sorry to hear you are feeling poorly Snadger. Hope you are better soon.

My remedy is a good old hot toddy - into a mug put a large (very) measure of whisky, two teaspoons of brown sugar (or honey) and top up with boiling water. Take yourself off to bed and once sitting in bed (not before unless you drink lots of whisky regularly ) slug it down as quick and hot as you can bear. The hope is that you get tipsy quickly and fall asleep before you have been lying down long enough to bung up or cough.

I also use the honey and lemon one during daytime. Lots of garlic and sage in the diet are supposed to help reduce the chances of catching colds in the first place.

My big fave if I'm coming down with or suffering from something of that ilk is a big pot of sage tea.

1. Pick sage
2. Boil kettle
3. Warm pot, put in sage
4. Add boiling water and infuse for 5-10 mins.
5. Drink, adding honey or some such if you have namby pampy taste buds.

There was some survey thing done a couple of years ago to find out what worked the best and seem to remember it was chicken soup what won so maybe you should try some of that. Think it had to be good quality homemade type stuff though, can't see tins doing the trick.

Here's a good one - raw onion on toast, melted cheese on top. Don't worry about your breath, nobodys going to be kissing you with the flu anyway
