I have a big pirate flag flying off the worktop roof which is replaced by a Tigers flag on a regular basis.

I dont ever display the national flag. I am not partiotic, I am not particularly proud of being British. Its just the place that I was born and the place that I live.

There are some aspects of British culture that I love and some that I loathe.

I feel that the British flag and the St George's flag represent so many things, but they are most commonly seen in relation to right-wing political agendas, or hooliganism associated with certain sports.

OH and myself are proud to fly the St Georges flag, we have one hanging from the front of the house, we also have a Union flag which goes to the football match's with the OH. Why should we be made to feel like a racist just because we fly the flag, yes the OH has his head shaved, he's got a beer belly but he fought for his country in Iraq...twice, which in my eye's give's him the god given right to fly his flag's with pride.

my workplace flies a Union Jack but when asked to fly the England flag bosses said no for fear of offending other British Countries decendants!!!!
I live in England and certainly don't feel offended if I go to Wales or Scotland and see their national flag flying....but no, our bosses said we couldn't offend people.
But the previous week had flown the rainbow flag for homophobic awareness day!!!!

I happen to be proud to be English though don't fly a flag on my car coz I think they are a bit tacky and have seen a few fly off other cars so I don't feel they are safe.
I have a Derbyshire flag sticker in my car though...cor God forbid I might offend someone from another county by doing so !!!

Absolutely! I would wave the flag for the troops anytime but not for our footie team.

Genuinely curious, why are you not proud to be British?

I'm somewhere to the left of Che Guevara, have minimal interest in sports and think that most (probably all) of our successive governments are a bit poor but I am proud to live in a country that is generally tolerant, has a fascinating history and a beautiful landscape and when I feel like it, I fly both the Union flag and the flag of St George.

There's nothing at all wrong with a sense of national identity. It's worked very well for Scotland and Wales... time to reclaim 'being English' from the racist idiots!
