A bit late now but what I really don't understand is that if you really had to say something then why you didn't do it either in person or at the very least on the phone, whilst I'd be disappointed that I'd got a present wrong (particularly after putting a lot of thought into it) but more upset that the recipient couldn't be bothered to speak to me about it. This may be a "me" thing but I find that e-mail / text / facebook to be quite a lazy method of communication and prefer any difficult situations to be dealt with head on and that this usually avoids some of the problems.

I've now typed several responses to this - none of which have been suitable for a family forum.

It wasn't meant as abusive, it's just that sometimes putting off just speaking to somebody can make things worse and as shown by the fact that my response looked like I was having a go, it's all too easy to misunderstand things when you only have the written word to go on. It doesn't help that I work with a load of people who think that it's acceptable just to email somebody to tell them to do something without speaking to them about the project first. Would put a smilie here but there isn't an appropriate one to sum up what I'm trying to say but will make do with this one -

Yes, I do understand that but I'd still put e-mail as lower on the heirarchy of communication than spoken word when it's something important rather than just news.
