that the place where my current book is based is actually real - Cavailon in France. As I've fallen in love with the place I'd love to visit for real my question question is:

Where have you read about in a fictional story and fallen in love with so much you'd like too / have visited?

Always quite fancied a desert Island, like in Crusoe - parts of Jamaica come close.

Spinalonga - an island off the coast of Crete, it was a colony for lepers. But the book was really really lovely, honest. It was "The Island" by Victoria Hislop and well worth a read (for us girlies, at least).

The island is steeped in history and worth visiting too.

Are you reading one of Kate Mosse's books Lizzy? I'd quite like to visit that area after reading her books.

For me, it was visiting Pompeii, after reading about it in Latin lessons. Absolutely amazing experience

And I wouldn't say no to a trip to Diagon Alley...

There's not so many books that are based in a real place-it was a bit of a shock to me when I opened Diana Gabaldon "Cross stitch" to see the time and place-Inverness 1946.
Then later,reading the book and all local towns and villages popping up-Fort William,Beauly.Even Nessie got her piece in the book
Where I'd like to go?
I've read one of the fiction books based in Italy-Bellaggio and Pescallo beside Lake Como.The places are real.The author mentioned gardens to visit and big nurseries not to far away-don't know if they exist.
I'm still tempted as I always wanted to visit Italy and France(must find a book place in France)

The books is called Jacquot and the Angel by a chap called Martin O'Brien. He used to write travel articles for some very well known glossies and boy, he really knows how to conjure up a picture. (Not sure about the story but it is heavily disguised)

It's like I'm standing there sometimes, so not only do I want to visit (It's down near Montpelier so possible) I also want to learn French and start smoking again too (normal rollups for me though). The Square is really and there's a Chateau not that far away so that fits too. Tres Bonn!

Yes I have, well kinda anyway.
One of my everlasting favourite books is Wuthering Heights, and I had always wanted to visit Haworth, not only did I get to in 2008, but last year I got to do some work for the Bronte Museum and stay up there for 2 weeks. I also got to visit Sylvai Plath's grave in Heptonstall, which is such a wonderfully eerie and remote place too, I love the whole area.

Hmmm... Not only do I seriously dislike Wuthering Heights, but, Haworth has to be one of the most depressing places in the universe (in my opinion ) It's cold, windy, gloomy, the sun never shines, and, it's attached to Keighley... I guess familarity has bred contempt

Although it is not really a book as such more of a legend and tales surrounding it but i love the myths and legends around King Arthur. I visited Glastonbury Abbey said to be the buriel place of Arthur and also Glastonbury Tor.
We sat on the top of the Tor with a 360 degree panoramic view and watched the equinox with lots of hippies, other than when my son was born this was the most magical moment of my life, the nearest i have ever come to actually being in awe and wonder at the earth and felt that it was a magical place.

I'm with Sarz on Haworth. I'm a Yorkshire Lass, so hardly a softy but the whole place just smelled of bleak unhappiness and TB to me

I've been to poor Sylvia's grave too. A very wet and grey day. Fitting, I guess

The place I'd most like to go after having read about is Ancient Rome (Lindsay Davis' 'Falco' series). Best fire up the time machine...
